A place for tomorrow
At bedtime, Nora found a feather
in the pocket of her coat.
She meant to show her brother.
She set it in a little red bowl
beside his waiting boots.
By morning there were spoons to find,
a sleeve turned inside out,
rain at the window.
The feather waited.
Her brother stopped.
“Where did this come from?”
The spoons could wait a moment.
They held it to the window.
A hundred little branches
caught the morning light.
“Shall we look for the bird?”
he asked.
Nora reached for her coat.
