“He tells me that Ireland has created a whole system of accommodation specifically for people on six-figure annual salaries, with a narrative from economists and development lobbyists that these workers would love to live in purpose-built accommodation. But he says that this presumption, that tech workers want to live in smaller places, as they’ll be moving on soon, is incorrect. Actually, what you find is, particularly couples, as well as many of these highly paid people want to live in established communities, such as Phibsborough and Dublin 8, where there are proper Dublin pubs and bakeries and butchers, he tells me. Neither co-living nor build-to-rent offer what tech workers might actually want, only what lobbyists conveniently assumed a stereotypical tech worker might desire, he says.”
